After acquiring his Bachelor of Science degree at Fordham University, Dr. Gouzman attended the Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and received his medical degree in 1984. He then served a n internship in general surgery at Metropolitan Hospital in New York City, New York (1984 – 1985), followed by a general surgery residency (1985 – 1989) and burn surgery fellowship (1989 – 1990) at Westchester County Medical Center. He eventually completed a plastic surgery residency at the University of Oklahoma Medical College and the Lenox Hill Hospital, New York (1990 – 1992), where he served as Chief Resident in Plastic Surgery.
Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two main categories: reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. Reconstructive surgery includes craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and the treatment of burns.
A Fellow of the American College of Surgery, Dr. Gouzman is also a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He speaks Spanish in addition to English, and is the recipient of the Doctors’ Choice Award.
