Growing up on a farm in Macomb, Illinois, his early years were marked by challenges and setbacks. Despite flunking out of Florida State University and struggling academically, he found his purpose and drive during his time in the U.S. Navy. Overcoming obstacles, including a wrestling injury that derailed his dream of becoming a Navy pilot, he never lost sight of his ultimate goal.

After a successful stint as a deputy sheriff and a brief but impactful tenure with the FBI, Dr. Carrison realized that his true calling lay in medicine. Pursuing his dream against all odds, he embarked on a journey of education and training that culminated in his current role as an emergency physician. His educational background includes a degree from Western University of Health Sciences and residency at Cook County Hospital. 

Dr. Carrison possesses extensive experience in emergency medical services (EMS), which has been integral to their practice in emergency medicine for over 30 years. In addition to instructing Emergency Medicine Residents, Dr. Carrison has taught paramedicine throughout their career and has served as a medical director for numerous EMS agencies at local and federal levels.

With a professorship at the University of Nevada School of Medicine and an appointment as the state homeland security chief, Dr. Carrison's credentials speak volumes about his dedication and expertise in the field. He is board-certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, a testament to his commitment to providing exceptional care to his patients.
