Can my diabetes affect my teeth?
Absolutely! You are more susceptible to periodontal disease, tooth loss, and oral infections unless you have excellent glycemic control. READ MORE
Do cavities ever need to be refilled?
Fillings do not last forever! However, in this case it sounds like the cavity was close to the nerve in the tooth and it is just now showing symptoms. The tooth may need root canal treatment. READ MORE
Can my silver fillings be replaced with white fillings?
They usually can be replaced depending on how large they are and whether there is decay under them. Sometimes the tooth is weak underneath and may require a crown. If the fillings are intact with no signs of leakage or decay, I suggest leaving them alone. READ MORE
How often can I use a mouthwash in a day?
Have you seen your dentist recently? Bad breath may be a sign of periodontal disease or a systemic condition. If those have been ruled out then therapeutic mouthwashes should only be used a couple of times daily. Chewing sugar-free gum and sugar-free mints may help. READ MORE
Can eating ice harm my teeth?
Chewing ice is a serious hazard for teeth. The combination of extreme cold and pressure can cause breakage of teeth and restorations. READ MORE
Will being on a liquid diet affect my teeth in any way?
It depends on the acidity of the liquid and how long you hold it in your mouth. If you simply drink it and then rinse with water, I would expect you to be safe. If you constantly sip it all day long, that would be dangerous. READ MORE
What is the best way to whiten my teeth?
Over the counter products are only minimally effective in this situation. You would need to consult your dentist for your particular situation. READ MORE
My mother lost all of her teeth. What can be done?
Dentures have been around for a very long time and most people adapt to them eventually. She can talk to her dentist about implants that either replace the teeth or can snap dentures in place so they feel more like real teeth. READ MORE
I am not very satisfied with my RCT. What should I do about it?
Not necessarily. If the tooth doesn't feel pretty normal after a few weeks, then you need to go back to the dentist who performed the treatment or get a second opinion. READ MORE
I feel pain and pressure on my gums. What could this be from?
It could be an infection or some kind of ulcer in the area. You should have your dentist look at it if it doesn't subside in a few days. READ MORE
My daughter chipped her front two teeth. What are our options?
You did the right thing scheduling an appointment with her dentist. The possibility of hidden damage is present and will be evaluated by your dentist. Most likely he or she will be able to bond the teeth to restore a normal appearance. READ MORE
Why are my gums swollen?
Sounds like you could have a serious case of gingivitis or periodontitis. You need to see your dentist for an evaluation. READ MORE
Why do my oral ulcers keep coming back?
There could be a number of reasons for oral ulcers, such as allergy, autoimmune conditions, or trauma. You should be evaluated by your dentist or an oral medicine specialist. READ MORE
Can a toothpaste help with tooth sensitivity?
Yes, there are several over-the-counter toothpastes which can help with this problem. They will not help if the problem is due to cavities or an abscess. READ MORE
Is the yellow tinge on my teeth caused by smoking permanent?
It can be improved but will always come back as long as you continue to smoke. READ MORE
Do I have to be numb?
Depends on the size of the filling. Many can be done without numbing if they are small enough. The X-ray should help indicate the size of the filling. READ MORE
Why does my breath stink?
It could be coming from elsewhere, but you need to be screened for periodontal disease or other oral conditions by your dentist. READ MORE
Can a gum infection pass to other parts of the body?
There is mounting evidence that oral infections can spread to other parts of the body. Sometimes the patient doesn't even realize they have periodontal infections. The best way to prevent this from happening is to have regular exams and cleanings at your dentist's office. READ MORE
Is higher or lower pressure better with water flossers?
Unfortunately, higher settings can cause trauma to your gums. READ MORE
Does switching toothpaste matter?
Not as long as your toothpaste is doing its job. READ MORE
