Get to know Dentist Dr. Alan M. Alvarez, who serves patients inCalifornia. Dr. Alvarez is a strong clinician with advanced training in cosmetics, orthodontics, and sedation. He is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Children’s Dental Center and Big People, Too! in San Jose, California. As such, it is his responsibility to plan, organize, and develop the strategies and processes to accomplish the corporate vision: “Create a healthier community and improve the quality of a patient’s life through continuous improvements in the development of our knowledge, our techniques, our team, and our delivery of dental care.” Originally from Fremont, California, Dr. Alvarez is a graduate of Bellarmine College Preparatory. He earned two Bachelor of Science Degrees, one from San Jose State University in Business Administration, and a second in Dental Sciences from the University of California, San Francisco. After earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry in 1996, Dr. Alvarez completed a General Practice Residency at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Palo Alto, California. Driven by a commitment to lifelong learning, he is certified to provide orthodontic treatment, having completed the orthodontic programs at Progressive Orthodontics, and is a certified Invisalign provider. With quality performance in all aspects of dentistry, Dr. Alvarez holds a Pediatric Oral Sedation Permit in the State of California. He is also a past president of the University of California, San Francisco Dental Alumni Association. Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy. Outside of practicing dentistry, Dr. Alvarez’ interests include sailboats, motorcycles, traveling, and visiting wine country.
