Get to know Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Gino J. Sedillo, who serves patients in Bradenton, Florida.

A seasoned cardiologist, Dr. Sedillo serves patients at his private practice – CardioVascular Solutions Institute – in Bradenton, Florida.

The staff at CardioVascular Solutions Institute provides high quality, state of the art, comprehensive cardiovascular care to their patients, their families and the community, within a compassionate and service-oriented environment. With locations in Bradenton & Sarasota, the practice allows easy access for physician consultation, diagnostic testing, procedures and follow up. They offer services for ongoing care including a pacemaker clinic, a Coumadin clinic and extensive follow up.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dr. Sedillo had an interesting childhood, much in part due to his father, Arthur’s, profession. A former Golden Gloves boxing champion and U.S. marine, his dad began his law enforcement career as a state patrolman and eventually became the first Hispanic agent in the Drug Enforcement Administration. As a result, he was transferred to cover all of Central and South America. His family relocated every two or three years on average, because of security issues and in an attempt to respond to the rapidly expanding illegal drug trade.

When he was 14 years old, his family returned to the United States. He accepted his first job in a hospital in Laredo, Texas – buffing floors. Two years later, he was an old-school orderly, emptying bedpans and making beds. A stint as a monitor tech in the ICU gave him his first real exposure to what it takes to be a doctor. His lifelong dream of becoming a doctor became a quest after he met a cardiologist at the hospital who trained at the Texas Heart Institute and became his inspiration.

Another job transfer by his father took him to Monterrey, Mexico, where he eventually attended medical school at the Universidad de Monterrey. After graduation, Dr. Sedillo began his residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He was chosen to be Chief Resident, which helped him realize his penchant for teaching and also achieve his coveted goal of being accepted in the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program at the Texas Heart Institute, where he was selected Chief Interventional Fellow his third year.

With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, the doctor is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Achieving fellowship status, he is a Fellow of both the American College of Cardiology (FACC), and the American College of Physicians (FACP).

After 15 years of training, Dr. Sedillo joined the Bradenton Cardiology Center in 1995. During that time, he performed more than 1,000 procedures a year. He began teaching procedures and techniques to other practicing cardiologists, vascular surgeons, and interventional radiologists. He was also the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton.

In 2011, he founded his independent practice, CardioVascular Solutions Institute. Since then, he has been named Director of the Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Program at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota, an association that is a good fit for him, the hospital and area residents.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

Among his most notable achievements, Dr. Sedillo has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2018, 2014, 2013, 2011), and On-Time Doctor Award (2018).

When he is not seeing patients, teaching other physicians or doing clinical research, he cherishes time with his children. Although no longer married, he and their mother share common values and expectations when it comes to raising their children. Three of his older children have expressed interest in careers in medicine. He eagerly awaits to see if they will go on to pursue such careers, and encourage all of them to follow their dreams.
