When should I replace dentures?
When it is your first denture, especially having just had teeth removed, it should be checked for fit and rock at about the six month time frame. After that you should have a limited exam once each year. Dentures can last many years, but as your gum and bone change, the denture may rock, causing excessive bone loss. At his Fairfax County practice, Rye Smiles for Life, he is devoted to dentistry that combines personalized care with art, science, skill, and technology. Dr. Rye spends extra time getting to know his patients and listening to their goals for cosmetic dentistry, so that he can create a plan to achieve the smile they desire.
Committed to the art of aesthetics, Dr. Rye believes that each of his patients should be able to live full lives and look their best while doing it. He also believes every dental problem has a solution, and is skilled in restoring and replacing broken, cracked, or missing teeth, creating dentures for hard-to-fit patients, placing dental implants, and using a variety of cosmetic procedures to create beautiful smiles.

His personalized treatment plans, ranging from the simple to the highly complex, are truly life-changing. Patients of his Fairfax dentistry practice smile more and are more confident, healthy, happy, and beautiful.
After completing his undergraduate education at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota, Dr. Rye received his dental training at the Medical College of Virginia. He then completed one of the most prestigious training programs in the United States, the General Practice Residency at the University of Virginia Hospital, before opening his practice in Fairfax.
Since then, Dr. Rye has trained and worked one-on-one with some of the best educators and cosmetic dental specialists in the world. He is trained in advanced implant dentistry by the Pi Dental Implant Center, which instructs in the use of advanced radiography such as Cone Beam ICAT Scans, virtual implant placement, CAD/CAM technology, and precise surgical guides to place implants and custom prosthetic teeth in one appointment.
He still considers these two years of his professional training to be the most beneficial of all his continuing education. His educators instilled him with the confidence he needed to provide exceptional dentistry for his patients. They emphasized the importance of advanced training, and they were directly responsible for inspiring him to seek quality continuing education for the rest of his professional life.
In 2010, Dr. Rye earned the title of Fellow of the American Dental Implant Association. Subsequently, in 2011, he earned the title of Master of the American Dental Implant Association (MADI). Both distinctions are the result of expert training and leadership through Implant Seminars, Inc., under the direction of the world renowned and respected leader in the implant industry, Dr. Arun Garg.
The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) selected Dr. Rye in 2012 to receive the AGD’S Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition (LLSR). Earning this prestigious recognition from the AGD symbolizes his dedication to dentistry and the fulfillment of his professional responsibility to “give back” to the dental profession and his community through his volunteer efforts.
By embracing these core beliefs of the AGD throughout his career, Dr. Rye has set an example all general dentists are encouraged to emulate. Less than 200 members of the AGD have earned the LLSR. Dr. Rye’s commitment to the practice of dentistry and quality patient care, his volunteer efforts, and his continuing pursuit of education after attaining Fellowship and Mastership is something of which he, his team, and his family are extremely proud.
Dr. Rye was selected by Dr. Garg, the founder of the American Dental Implant Association, to teach aesthetics across the nation. He is also a regular clinical instructor at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI).

Through the years, Dr. Rye has emphasized the advancement of his dental education, completing thousands of hours of continuing education courses with a focus on cosmetics, TMJ treatment, and complex dental reconstruction.
He appeared on CBS’ “American Health Front!” an exclusive medical news television program designed to educate viewers about important advances in medical techniques and technologies.
Living life to the fullest, Dr. Rye is a devoted husband and father of three.
