Born in Trinidad and raised in the United States, Dr. Sam graduated with her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and with her Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Community Health from the same educational venue. She then did her internship and residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, and her fellowship in gastroenterology at New York University Medical Center.

Trained to address complex medical conditions, she is board-certified in gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
