Is it safe to take amoxicillin if I don't need to?
It is extremely difficult to distinguish between a viral or bacterial sinonasal infection during the first 7 days. I do not recommend taking antibiotics unless your practitioner feels confident that you are likely suffering from a bacterial infection. As you noted, Amoxil will not alleviate a viral infection. At best, it won't do anything. At worst, you could have side effects of the antibiotic. Side effects of antibiotics are numerous and some of them can be quite severe. Therefore, I do not recommend simply taking them without the direction of a physician. READ MORE
I used cold water from my fridge in my neti pot. Will I get PSE or get nasal damage?
It is highly unlikely that you'll get a bad infection due to one rinse when not using distilled water. Get back to using distilled water for safety and remember to sanitize your Neti pot, or rinse bottle, before and after each use. READ MORE

Thyroid nodule?
I'd definitely start by having you see an ENT physician and having an ultrasound performed. A thyroid nodule should not be in continuity with your throat. This sounds more like a laryngocele. READ MORE
Nose cartilage inquiry?
It's unlikely that deep inspiration, like you're describing, would cause damage to the cartilage itself. That being said, there are ligaments which connect various cartilages in the nose as well as to the skin itself. These can weaken over the years which leads to changes in nasal appearance and function. Over many years, you may be accelerating some of this process. READ MORE
Post surgery?
Yes, you should still use your CPAP. I always tell me sleep apnea patients that they must assume, as do I, that they still have persistent sleep apnea, even after upper airway surgery, until a polysomnogram (sleep study) is done. I know of another doctor's patient who died of sleep apnea complications from NOT resuming CPAP after tonsillectomy. READ MORE
Is a rhinoplasty after retinal surgery safe?
There should not be any direct trauma/surgical risk to the eye. That being said, eye protection during surgery by the surgeon and anesthesiology team could put pressure on your eyes and should be discussed. Additionally, blood pressure management should be discussed with the anesthesia team with additional recommendations and guidance from your retinal specialist. READ MORE
What medicine to take for sinus pressure?
Without knowing: your medical history, current medications what you've tried it's difficult to make safe and specific recommendations. That being said, saline rinsing to the nose is safe. Can swimmer's ears cause deafness?
A swimmer's ear can cause a loss of hearing if the canal becomes swollen shut or filled with debris from the infection. This hearing loss will completely recover once this infection resolves. In very rare circumstances, the infection, if untreated or if a severely immunocompromised state is present, could progress deeper into the skull. At this point, permanent hearing loss could result. Lung issue?
Your asthma is a possibility in this situation, but I'd strongly consider nocturnal reflux (from your stomach) as a contributing factor. See your pulmonologist first and mention this as a possibility. In the meantime, try elevating the head of your bed and make sure you don't eat (or drink much) for at least a couple hours before lying down at night (that includes lying down on the couch etc). Parotid seroma keeps coming back after draining
This can be a very frustrating issue for both the patient and surgeon. It is typically self-limiting. First line therapy is recurrent aspiration of the fluid collection. The pocket typically gets smaller and scars itself off with time. Occasionally, a drain will be placed to help prevent the need for repeated visits and aspirations, but isn't without its own drawbacks. If this occurs long-term, Botox (or similar agents) may be useful. Fortunately, I've never had it persist long enough to require such intervention. I have used Botox for patients whom I've seen in consultation for Frey's syndrome (sweating over this area while eating) which can be a consequence of parotid surgery. READ MORE
