Get to know Ophthalmologist/Retina Specialist Dr. Ronald Sachs, who serves patients throughout the State of New Jersey.

Dr. Sachs is a skilled, fellowship-trained Retina Specialist/Ophthalmologist who founded Retina Associates of North West New Jersey in 1993 to provide state-of-the-art medical and surgical treatment of diseases affecting the retina, vitreous, and macula. He opened his first office in Morristown, New Jersey and the practice has since flourished with three additional offices opening in Sparta, Hackettstown, and Dover.

“I’ve always tried to put my patients at ease with a comfortable personal approach. I understand that many of the retina problems I treat can be anxiety provoking for my patients. My guiding principle is to treat my patients as if they are members of my family” as stated by Dr. Sachs.

Born and raised in northern New Jersey, he attended Tulane University in New Orleans as an undergraduate, graduating summa cum laude with highest honors and Phi Beta Kappa. Thereafter, he earned his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine, after which he completed his internship at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut.

Wanting to further his training, Dr. Sachs performed his residency in ophthalmology at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York, where he served as chief resident. Subsequently, he received advanced training in retinal surgery and performed clinical research during his fellowship in retina vitreous surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Demonstrating a mastery of basic knowledge and skills, the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Additionally, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists, and a Fellow of the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the New Jersey State Medical Society, and a member of the Morris County Medical Society.

Honored as one of America’s Top Ophthalmologists, Dr. Sachs has been recognized by his peers for over 20 consecutive years as a “Top Doctor” in New York/New Jersey. He is currently serving as Chairman of Ophthalmology at Morristown Medical Center, as well as remains affiliated with Hackettstown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
