Local Physician Enhances Community Healthcare with Advanced Surgical Skills and Commitment to Patient Care

A board-certified general surgeon, Dr. Smith is a proud member of the team at Jackson Surgical Associates in Jackson, Tennessee. With a wealth of experience in general surgery, including a focus on minimally invasive and endocrine procedures, he is committed to providing exceptional care to the residents of Jackson and the surrounding communities.

Education-wise, he earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), where he distinguished himself as Class President throughout his medical education. In addition to his degree, he achieved a Certificate in Health Systems and Leadership, underscoring his dedication to advancing healthcare standards and practices.

Following his graduation, Dr. Smith completed his internship and residency at the UTHSC Surgery program in Memphis, TN, culminating in a role as chief surgery resident. His extensive training included a comprehensive approach to general surgery, enhanced by significant trauma experience at the Presley Memorial Trauma Center.

Throughout his academic and professional journey, he has received numerous accolades for his contributions to medicine and student life. Notably, he was awarded the Outstanding Performance as a Student in the Art and Science of Surgery and the Distinguished UT Student Service Award during his time in medical school. As a surgical resident, he was honored with the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award, recognizing his commitment to compassionate patient care and education.

A proud native of Jackson, Tennessee, Dr. Smith and his wife, Tonya, have two beautiful daughters, Brianna and Lily. He is also the son of Dr. Clyde E. Smith, a respected hematologist/oncologist and palliative care physician affiliated with Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. 

Outside of his professional commitments, he enjoys a variety of hobbies, including aviation, running, boating, and spending quality time with his family.
