  • Can a dislocated ankle fix itself?

The question is tricky because if you are asking if a dislocation can reduce and go back into position prior to dislocation, then anything is possible. The problem is, even if a dislocation reduces itself (which does not happen too often), there is a period of time that is needed to allow the ligaments and surrounding structures to heal itself, and you really need medical attention for diagnostic testing to see no ligaments or tendons are torn as a result of the dislocation. • Can heel pain be treated surgically?

85% of heel pain is treated conservatively, but it depends on the cause of the heel pain, as heel pain can be associated with many causes such as arthritic spurs, inflammation of the heel cord, neurological causes such as back conditions or inflammation of nerves to the foot, and, of course, stress fractures of the heel or a growth in the bone of the heel. In the end, some need surgical intervention, but it most don’t. It all depends on the cause. READ MORE

  • My foot looks like it has a wart on the bottom of it. How can I get rid of it?

If it’s a true wart, it won’t go away by itself. Usually, warts, which are a type of papilloma virus, are best treated via some type of resection by use of freezing technique vs surgical excision vs use of chemical agents to get rid of the lesion. If a true wart, have it removed because they can multiply and then you are dealing with a bigger problem. READ MORE

  • Why do I find it hard to flex my toes?

Stiffness is usually associated with some type of inflammatory process involving the joints of the toes. This may include mechanical trauma such as tight shoes or arthritis in general which will happen to most people as we get older. Stiffness can also result from other conditions such as diabetes where muscles and tendons lose strength and function and we develop stiffness due to lack of movemebt READ MORE

  • How long does it take for heel pain to heal?

Heel pain, if caused by inflammation such as plantar fasciitis, can be self-limiting. meaning it can sometimes resolve on its own. However, it can take as long as 9-12 months for the heel to respond on its own, so we recommend treatment at the office to expedite the healing. READ MORE

  • Should you wear a walking boot for a sprained ankle?

A grade 1 sprain can certainly be placed into a walking boot however a grade 2 which is a partial tear is best treated if immobilized initially for 3-5 weeks Grade 3 should be immobilized forn8-12 weeks READ MORE

  • How successful is plantar fasciitis surgery?

There are a wide variety of treatment options for plantar fascia surgery and for me, surgery is not usually performed until all forms of conservative modalities have been exhausted. In treating plantar fasciitis for 28 years, I have found 80% respond conservatively and the 20% of patients where I perform surgery, 90% respond favorably to endoscopic procedures which are very minor. Other surgeries to treat fasciitis include conflation techniques and TENEC procedures. I have personally only seen 60% cure with these modalities in a sample of over 100 patients. In the end, if surgery is needed, the choice is the endoscopic plantar fasciotomy, which for me carried a 90% cure rate. That’s great odds! READ MORE

  • How long does it take for a broken fibula to heal after surgery?

Most Ossetia structures take 8-12 weeks to heal, and a healthy 17-year-old should heal well, provided immobilization techniques and refraining from walking on the ankle is adhered to. As long as fibula in’s non-displaced, there should be no worry for a healthy 17-year-old fibula from healing well. READ MORE

  • I have pus-filled white bumps around my ankle. What could this be?

Hello Anything regardless of where it is that contains pus filled fluid should be cultured. With that being said, the seriousness of any condition with pus like substance would depend on the results of the culture which may indicate an infectious process. Treatment would be initiated based on the culture. READ MORE
