What causes your nerves to shake?
This is a very complex question. There are many general medical problems as well as specific neurological problems that may cause someone to shake. Some causes of tremor include prescription medications, alcohol, illegal drugs, liver disease, thyroid disease, genetic diseases, psychiatric diseases, vitamin deficiencies, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, and a host of other diseases. If the damage is purely to a peripheral nerve and the central nervous system connections are intact, the rate of peripheral nerve growth is 1 mm/day. This assumes that the original problem has been corrected. Michael J. Olek, DO READ MORE
How long does neck nerve damage take to heal?
Unfortunately, this is a very complex question with no concrete answer. One of the many factors for recovery is the cause of the nerve damage. Some causes are temporary, some are permanent and some can be relieved with surgery. Some causes can also be relieved with medication and physical therapy. The most important factor is to discover the underlying cause of the nerve damage and to concentrate on correcting the problem if possible. Michael J. Olek, DO READ MORE
I have numbness in my arms and hands when sleeping?
Most often, numbness when sleeping that recovers when awake, is due to positioning. Many people "hug" a pillow at night and put pressure on the carpal tunnel causing temporary numbness in their hand, especially the thumb and first two fingers. Also, some people sleep with their neck in a twisted position and put pressure on the nerves to the arm. Proper neck positioning and/or wearing a cock-up wrist splint at night should eliminate the problem. If the problem persists while awake or you develop other symptoms such as weakness or pain, please see a physician. Michael J. Olek, DO READ MORE
How do I treat pachydermodactyly?
Steroids or surgery. READ MORE
I have a pressure headache?
First, please relax. If headache is your only symptom and you inhaled sodium hydroxide (lye), it will only irritate the lining of your sinus and cause a pressure-like pain. Wash the clothes you used while working with lye then try over-the-counter sodium nasal spray or a neti pot to help flush out the lye from the sinuses. Try lying down using ice over the sinus area. For a few days, you may try aspirin or tylenol or advil, but if the headache persists or you develop other symptoms, please see a physician. Michael J. Olek, DO READ MORE

Epilepsy treatment?
Cure is a variable term. One definition of cure is for a patient to be on medication with no side effects and no seizures, which is possible. Also, if the cause is found, it may be able to isolate the abnormal brain tissue and remove it by surgery, which some claim is a cure, although people still need to take medication after surgery. In about 60% of cases, the cause for epilepsy cannot be found. READ MORE
