I would suggest speaking with your primary care provider to uncover your specific situation. READ MORE

  • Should I see a neurologist for dizziness?

There are several causes of what people describe as dizziness. I would first see your primary care provider since some causes, such as anemia, can be screened for easily. If no general medical cause is found, you can then see a neurologist. READ MORE

  • Head pain?

Positional headaches are concerning. Please see a physician as soon as possible. READ MORE

  • What causes your nerves to shake?

This is a very complex question. There are many general medical problems as well as specific neurological problems that may cause someone to shake. Some causes of tremor include prescription medications, alcohol, illegal drugs, liver disease, thyroid disease, genetic diseases, psychiatric diseases, vitamin deficiencies, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, and a host of other diseases. I would recommend a full work-up from a general physician, then a specific visit with a neurologist to get a detailed examination and a targeted work-up. • Can apple cider vinegar help with nerve pain?

Apple cider vinegar is a natural product with some anti-inflammatory ingredients, which may temporarily stop nerve pain and has no side effects. However, you should see a physician to diagnose the underlying cause for your nerve pain since there may be a permanent solution for your nerve pain. • How long does arm nerve damage take to heal?

If the damage is purely to a peripheral nerve and the central nervous system connections are intact, the rate of peripheral nerve growth is 1 mm/day. This assumes that the original problem has been corrected. Michael J. Olek, DO READ MORE

  • How long does neck nerve damage take to heal?

Unfortunately, this is a very complex question with no concrete answer. One of the many factors for recovery is the cause of the nerve damage. Some causes are temporary, some are permanent and some can be relieved with surgery. Some causes can also be relieved with medication and physical therapy. The most important factor is to discover the underlying cause of the nerve damage and to concentrate on correcting the problem if possible. • I have numbness in my arms and hands when sleeping?

Most often, numbness when sleeping that recovers when awake, is due to positioning. Many people "hug" a pillow at night and put pressure on the carpal tunnel causing temporary numbness in their hand, especially the thumb and first two fingers. Also, some people sleep with their neck in a twisted position and put pressure on the nerves to the arm. Proper neck positioning and/or wearing a cock-up wrist splint at night should eliminate the problem. If the problem persists while awake or you develop other symptoms such as weakness or pain, please see a physician. Michael J. Olek, DO READ MORE

  • How do I treat pachydermodactyly?

    Steroids or surgery. READ MORE

  • I have a pressure headache?

First, please relax. If headache is your only symptom and you inhaled sodium hydroxide (lye), it will only irritate the lining of your sinus and cause a pressure-like pain. Wash the clothes you used while working with lye then try over-the-counter sodium nasal spray or a neti pot to help flush out the lye from the sinuses. Try lying down using ice over the sinus area. For a few days, you may try aspirin or tylenol or advil, but if the headache persists or you develop other symptoms, please see a physician. Michael J. Olek, DO READ MORE

  • How often should I take Meclizine HCI 25 mg?

Meclizine has limited use in vertigo. I would not use more than 2 weeks. I would suggest an ENT or another ENT consult. READ MORE

  • Can nerve damage from a stroke be repaired?

Brain tissue that has died cannot regenerate, however, adjacent brain cells may be able to help in recovering lost function. Typically, the most recovery comes in the first six months after the stroke. Physical therapy is extremely helpful with the recovery process. READ MORE

  • Weird hand feeling?

Most causes of hand numbness are due to entrapment of a nerve at either the wrist, elbow or neck. I would suggest an evaluation by a neurologist. Michael J. Olek, DO READ MORE

  • Epilepsy treatment?

Cure is a variable term. One definition of cure is for a patient to be on medication with no side effects and no seizures, which is possible. Also, if the cause is found, it may be able to isolate the abnormal brain tissue and remove it by surgery, which some claim is a cure, although people still need to take medication after surgery. In about 60% of cases, the cause for epilepsy cannot be found. READ MORE

  • Why do I have nerve pain?

You type of pain is usually due to physical pressure on the nerve from surrounding structures. As you age, the discs between your vertebrae lose water and shrink and bulge out to the side and may cause pressure and pain on the exiting nerves. Please visit your primary care physician for evaluation. Michael J. Olek, DO READ MORE
