Dr. Dmitry Tuder is a fellowship trained board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Dr. Tuder immigrated to the United States in 1990 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology magna cum laude from Towson State University in Maryland. He earned his medical degree at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland and completed his Orthopedic residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio,Texas in 2005. He then completed a Hand Surgery Fellowship at The Hand Center of San Antonio in 2006. Dr. Tuder was appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery at USUHS in 2007 and is published in multiple medical journals. In 2010, Dr. Tuder assembled a team of civilian and military surgeons who performed the first female hand transplant in the United States.Following this breakthrough, he has been invited to speak at multiple national and international conferences and has earned numerous academic and professional honors in addition to military awards recognizing his outstanding service. Dr. Tuder proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 20 years. He continues to serve in the US Air Force Reserves and remains on staff at the San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he was former Chief of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery.Dr. Tuder is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society for Reconstructive Transplantation, and the International Society of Hand and Composite Tissue Allotransplantation.
Dr. Tuder specializes in a full range of hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder orthopedic services in both pediatric and adult patients.
Dr. Tuder speaks English, Russian, and Ukrainian.
