Dr. Payam Afzali is a Board-Certified Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and is the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Chief of Service/Residency Program at Highland Hospital, Alameda Health System; the only level one trauma center in Oakland, California. He earned his Dental Degree (DDS) at Columbia University in New York. He finished OMFS residency and received his Medical Degree (MD) at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He completed postgraduate training in both Head and Neck Microvascular Surgery and Pediatric Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Afzali has participated in over 30 volunteer humanitarian missions both nationally and internationally. He has held multiple leadership positions in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is the current North American Co-Representative to the NextGen Committee of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS). Dr. Afzali is an author and co-author of multiple book chapters and articles. Dr. Afzali's scope of interest includes global health, head and neck oncology, head and neck trauma and pediatric craniomaxillofacial surgery.
