Previously, he was in private practice for nephrology and internal medicine at Norwalk Medical Group since 1976. 

On the subject of his educational background, he was awarded his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. He then went on to complete his internship and residency at Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, followed by his first-year and second-year renal fellowships at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. 

Dedicated to preserving adult health, Dr. Wiener is board-certified in both nephrology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, which is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Among his professional memberships are the American Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Nephrology, and the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care when the time comes. 

For his clinical expertise, Dr. Wiener was the recipient of the Service Excellence Award by Norwalk Hospital Subspecialty Clinics in 2009 and was listed in “Top Docs” in Nephrology in Connecticut Magazine from 2011 until 2017.
