Being a highly trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Puopolo specializes in the treatment of hand, wrist, and elbow problems. He is in practice with Orthopedic Associates of Long Island, seeing patients at the offices in East Setauket, Riverhead, and Wading River, New York.
Founded on reputation and focused on care, Orthopedic Associates of Long Island has seven convenient locations throughout the Long Island area, serving patients in and around the community. The providers working there have dedicated their careers to helping patients with a wide range of services regarding the musculoskeletal system. This includes the bones, muscles, tendons, joints, and ligaments throughout the body.
Performing minimally invasive endoscopic carpal tunnel release surgery, Dr. Puopolo offers extensive experience in both traumatic and degenerative conditions. His special areas of interest include: fractures and other traumatic injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, rheumatoid hand reconstruction, Dupuytren’s disease, as well as tendon and ligament injuries.
Completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Duke University in 1992, Dr. Puopolo went on to earn his medical degree from the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in 1997. He performed his internship in general surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center, and his residency in orthopedic surgery at The Hospital for Joint Diseases. He then went on to complete a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
A member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, he is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and surgery of the hand by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
Throughout his line of work, Dr. Puopolo has published and presented on numerous topics in orthopedics and hand surgery. He is affiliated with Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, Saint Catherine of Siena Medical Center, and St. Charles Orthopedics.
