Dr. Morgan Jr. is a renowned orthopedic surgeon achieving a career of excellence in service to his patients. He practices in Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida with specialties in pediatric orthopedics and adult reconstructive orthopedics. His practice now focuses solely on non-surgical orthopedic medicine for adults and children.

Among his hospital affiliations include Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Doctors Hospital, and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.

A true pioneer in his profession, Dr. Morgan Jr. has also been serving as the Executive Director the W. Montague Cobb/NMA Health Institute, the research arm of the National Medical Association, since June of 2005. 

Holding the role of an academic, he presently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Florida State University College of Medicine, and as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Community Medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center. It is there that he continues to develop his research interest in healthcare and musculoskeletal disparities.

Earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Grinnell College, Dr. Morgan Jr. began a long career of medicine after acceptance at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. After graduating with his medical degree, he served an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois where he was recognized as “Resident of the Year” and served as Chief Resident of Orthopedic Surgery. He then served as Resident Physician in Orthopedic Rehabilitation at the prestigious Rancho Los Amigos Hospital in Downey, California. 

Following the completion of his residency. Dr. Morgan Jr. joined two of his Northwestern faculty members in their private practice in Evanston, and became the first African American staff surgeon at the hospital. He then practiced in his hometown in Gary, Indiana and with the assistance of his father, Mr. Randall Morgan, Sr. He founded the Orthopedic Centers of Northwest Indiana, serving as President, and went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at the Children’s Hospital of Cincinnati. 

Thereafter, he served as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Indiana University and as a Clinical Associate at Northwestern University. He later earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of South Florida. 

Certified by the American Board of Managed Care Medicine, he is also board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

A visionary leader in group medical practice, community and youth mentorship, and national medical leadership, Dr. Morgan Jr. is an active research specialist and writer in the field of racial and ethnic health disparities. He has conducted over 200 publications and presentations during his scientific career.

Among his many titles and recognitions include Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (FAAOS), founding member of the J. Robert Gladden Orthopedic Society, member of the Sarasota County Medical Society, active member of the Board of Directors of the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, as well life member of the Grinnell College Board of Trustees as well as the Indiana University Foundation Board of Directors.
