Back in 1972, he earned his undergraduate degree from Hendrix College. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1975, after which he completed a graduate program in orthodontics at Baylor College of Dentistry in 1977.
