Get to know Emergency Physician Dr. R. Brandhen Buckingham, who serves patients in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. Buckingham is an emergency physician whose research and clinical interests include administration, ultrasound, and hyperbaric medicine.

Treating a wide range of acute conditions or injuries in an emergency room, he serves as the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. 

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Buckingham graduated with his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in 1999. He then went on to perform his internship with Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in 2000, his residency in internal medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine in 2002, and his residency in emergency medicine at UAB Hospital in 2005.

Board-certified in emergency medicine, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). The ABEM certifies emergency physicians who meet its educational, professional, and examination standards.

Teaching students, Dr. Buckingham serves as an Associate Professor within the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine.

Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician works in an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients on an unscheduled basis.
