Dr. Levine, an attentive and engaged urologist, is in practice with Advanced Urology Centers of New York - Lake Success Division. He is one of the few surgeons on Long Island who performs minimally invasive surgery for the management of prostate cancer using the da Vinci Surgical System.
Advanced Urology Centers of New York, a Division of Integrated Medical Professionals, was formed by community urologists committed to providing the highest level of medical service available. The doctors of Advanced Urology Centers of New York continue to practice in the neighborhoods they have been serving for years while affording them access to technology and services that are just not available to most medical groups. They are on staff at the leading hospitals in the New York metropolitan area, are active in clinical and academic research, participate in postgraduate medical education, and lecture nationally and internationally on cutting edge breakthroughs in medicine.
Having been in practice for over 25 years, Dr. Levine is experienced in urogynecology, pelvic reconstructive surgery, as well as female pelvic medicine and reconstruction. He is also board-certified in urology by the American Board of Urology, whose mission is to act for the benefit of the public by establishing and maintaining standards of certification for urologists, and working with certified urologists to achieve lifelong learning to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, and ethical urologic care.
Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Levine graduated with honors from Binghamton University. After receiving his degree, he studied at SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn where he earned his medical degree and graduated with a distinction in research. Thereafter, from 1992 until 1998, he performed his postgraduate training in urology and general surgery at New York University Medical Center under the direction of Dr. Herbert Lepor.
Recognized nationally and internationally for his extensive research experience, Dr. Levine received an award from the National Research Forum in Galveston, Texas for his work on the treatment of advanced prostate cancer in 1992. Years later, in 1998, he developed a prostate biopsy technique that increases the detection of prostate cancer by 30%. These results were presented at the meeting of the Society of International Urology.
A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Dr. Levine collaborated on a study on blood management during radical prostatectomy for the treatment of prostate cancer. He also reported on the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques for the treatment of upper urinary tract cancer, with his research now published in leading peer-reviewed journals.
Urology, also known as genitourinary surgery, is the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs. Urologists specialize in diseases of the urinary tract and the male reproductive system. Patients may be referred to a urologist if their physician suspects they may need treatment for a condition relating to the bladder, prostate, urethra, ureters, kidneys, and adrenal glands.
