Get to know Family Physician Dr. Michael A. Schindel, who serves patients in Lakewood, Colorado.

Dr. Schindel is a trusted family physician serving as the owner & operator of Mile High Family Medicine in Lakewood, Colorado. He also maintains hospital privileges at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center and St. Anthony’s Central Hospital.

The mission of Mile High Family Medicine is to provide the highest quality of care and customer service to families and individuals who entrust them with their health, via a team approach utilizing the latest advances in technology and information.

“My role as your physician is to advise you and equip you with the information and tools necessary to improve your health and/or keep you healthy. I prefer to do this with as little medicine as is necessary” expressed Dr. Schindel. He has specific interest and expertise in cardiovascular health, diabetes, hypertension and preventive health. He cherishes the relationships he is able to develop with his patients and their families and desire to provide excellent care.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Schindel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Medicine from Bob Jones University. He obtained his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed an internship and residency in family medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP), the doctor is a member of the Colorado Medical Society, the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians, and the Clear Creek Valley Medical Society. 

In practice for over 20+ years, he is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties. His philosophy of health can be summed up by the following words: “Think Well, Live Well, Feel Well. Then, by God’s grace, you can Be Well.”

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility. 

Among his various awards and honors, Dr. Schindel is the recipient of / has been named: America’s Top Family Doctors (2008), NCQA Clinical Excellence in Diabetes (2008, 2011), Patients’ Choice Award (2011, 2012), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2011, 2012, 2013), NCQA Clinical Excellence in Heart & Stroke (2012), and On-Time Doctor Award (2014).

Outside of practicing medicine, he enjoys spending most of his free time with his wife and five children. As a second generation Colorado native, he is an avid outdoorsman, and looks forward to opportunities for hiking, hunting, fishing, backpacking, golfing, etc. His favorite professional publication is the journal, American Family Physician.

With a strong faith in God, Dr. Schindel is active in his church. “I believe in a Divine Creator who alone is the Giver and Sustainer of life. God has given us the responsibility of learning about, and taking care of His creation (which includes our bodies). I believe God endorses the use of health sciences, whether it is nutrition, exercise physiology, surgery, or medication (natural and synthetic) to improve our health. I believe all these modalities can be enhanced by the power of prayer, and I make it my practice to pray for my patients regularly” as stated by Dr. Schindel.
