Get to know Emergency Physician Dr. Colin G. Kaide, who serves patients in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Kaide is an experienced emergency physician working within the Department of Emergency Medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. 

In addition to his clinical role, he is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. His academic interests include medical education, rapid-sequence intubation and the advanced management of the difficult airway, hematological and oncological disorders, anticoagulation and its reversal, procedural sedation, and hyperbaric medicine. He was honored as “Teacher of the Year” for the Department of Emergency Medicine (2008) and has received both The Ohio State University College of Medicine Excellence in Teaching Award (2004) and Outstanding Teaching Award (2008). 

At the 2017 American College of Emergency Physicians 2017 Scientific Assembly, Dr. Kaide was presented with the 2016-17 Outstanding Speaker of the Year Award. This award is designed to recognize a single faculty member who has consistently demonstrated teaching excellence through performance, versatility, and dependability during ACEP educational meetings throughout the year.

In March 2020, Dr. Kaide was awarded educator of the year for the Ohio chapter of the American College of emergency physicians.

As a native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Kaide completed his undergraduate studies and medical school at the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign. He then went on to perform his residency in emergency medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (1993-1996). After residency, he served as the assistant director of the emergency department in Lima, Ohio, for three years while serving as part-time faculty at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. In 2000, he joined the department at Ohio State as a full-time faculty member. 

Assessing patients who seek immediate medical attention at any time of day or night, he is board-certified in emergency medicine & undersea and hyperbaric medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). The ABEM certifies emergency physicians who meet its educational, professional, and examination standards.

In addition to emergency medicine and hyperbarics, he has completed advanced training in wound care and is certified by the Council for Medical Education and Testing.

In his professional experience, Dr. Kaide has also been a principal developer and chief medical editor for a medical software company that produces a computer-based electronic medical record product that creates computerized ED and inpatient discharge instructions, prescriptions, and work excuses with over 800 hospitals using the software and instructions.

Achieving professional competence, he is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (FAAEM). 

Emergency medicine, also known as trauma and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of life threatening medical conditions or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. They are trained to care for a wide range of problems that require emergent medical help. These problems are often serious and may be life-threatening.

One of Dr. Kaide’s outside interests is martial arts. He has participated in the combative arts since 1978 and holds a 3rd-degree black belt in Goshin Jitsu. He has been a teacher of self-defense since high school and has developed a specialized course for EMS providers and healthcare professionals.
