Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Robert N. Moukarzel, who serves patients in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Dr. Moukarzel is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon whose specialties include joint replacement & orthopaedic trauma and surgery. He is in practice with Ochsner Health Center – O’Neal, as well as can be found on staff at Baton Rouge General.

A Department of Ochsner Medical Center, Ochsner Health Center – O’Neal offers primary care and a number of specialty care services all in one convenient location. The facility recently added new specialties and additional physicians to provide more comprehensive care. The health center also completed an extensive renovation and now features new, updated patient care areas.

Baton Rouge General Medical Center is a 201-bed, private hospital located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The hospital offers various medical services and surgical procedures in addition to an Emergency Department. Its mission states: “We will preserve and restore health, one person at a time.​”

Graduating summa cum laude with a degree in management from St. Francis College, Dr. Moukarzel received his medical degree from Albany Medical College. His post-graduate training includes a residency in general surgery at Staten Island Hospital and Albany Medical Center Hospital. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Albany Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident.

A member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the doctor is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Recognized and respected for his accomplishments, Dr. Moukarzel is the recipient of Patients’ Choice Award (2015, 2017, 2018), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2015, 2017, 2018), and On-Time Doctor Award (2017, 2018).
