Serving Metro Detroit with exceptional surgical care for all orthopedic needs, Dr. Henderson is the Owner of Oakland Orthopedics in Pontiac, Michigan.
To achieve pain-free function, he specializes in diagnosing and treating back pain, osteoporosis, fractures, sports injuries, arm pain, and knee and hip pain. He diagnoses most conditions after a comprehensive history and physical, along with innovative in-office X-rays, and is proudly affiliated with St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital.
Some of the common procedures that he performs include total knee replacement, total hip replacement, total shoulder replacement, knee arthroscopy for torn meniscus cartilage and arthritis, open rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL), minimally invasive spine surgery, and kyphoplasty.
As a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Henderson has been fortunate to help patients for over five decades. He believes that humans were designed by our Creator to have a marvelous and intricate musculoskeletal system that can function and even restore itself with proper self-care and, when necessary, with the help of orthopedic treatment. His primary goal is to help guide patients through that process to maximize the restorative powers that God has given us.
Academically, Dr. Henderson obtained his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor in 1972. He then went on to perform his residencies in general surgery and orthopedic surgery at University Hospitals based in Cleveland, Ohio.
Following his training, he attained board certification in orthopedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
One of the most rewarding parts of orthopedic surgery is the ability to identify and define precisely what is causing the pain or symptoms of each patient. While the majority of patients’ problems can be treated nonoperatively, when necessary, orthopedic surgery often can fix and restore the problem. It is a blessing for Dr. Henderson to see the remarkable improvement that orthopedic procedures can provide for his patients.
Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
In honor of his clinical expertise, Dr. Henderson is the recipient of Patients’ Choice Award (2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2011, 2016).
