Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Shoshana Haberman, who serves patients in New York, New York.

Dr. Haberman is a highly trained obstetrician-gynecologist serving as the Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine and OB/GYN Diagnostic in the Department of OB/GYN at Maimonides Medical Center.

Her practice is focused on providing comprehensive OB/GYN care to women, serving their evolving needs during the various stages of life: from adolescence through menopause. She places special emphasis on high-risk pregnancies, perimenopausal and postmenopausal conditions, complications of pregnancy, fetal anomalies, maternal diseaases, and multiple gestation.

Maimonides Medical Center is a non-profit, non-sectarian hospital located in Borough Park, in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, in the U.S. state of New York. Maimonides is both a treatment facility and academic medical center with 711 beds, and more than 70 primary care and subspecialty programs.

As the Founder of the Perinatal Testing Unit and the current state-of-the-art OBS/Diagnostic Center at Maimonides, Dr. Haberman’s practice combines academic excellence with longstanding and extensive clinical experience. She focuses on the development and integration of advanced diagnostic technologies into clinical practice and is a member of advisory physician committees of companies developing such technologies. 

She has pioneered the use of advanced Doppler ultrasound used for uterine, ovarian placental, and fetal assessment based on the assessment of blood flow, advanced 3-D and 4-D technology to achieve early and precise diagnosis of maternal and fetal pathologies, and Implemented Labor Pro, an innovative ultrasound system, which is a non-invasive tool for labor management. 

In regards to her educational background, Dr. Haberman graduated Magna Sum Laude from The Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel, and earned her PhD in Biochemistry. After relocating to the United States, she pursued her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Maimonides Medical Center and then completed a subspecialty fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. 

A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

Serving as a Clinical Professor of OB/GYN at SUNY Downstate University, Dr. Haberman is also a member of the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts). An obstetrician-gynecologist specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and disorders that affect women, such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, and menopause.

Throughout her fruitful career, Dr. Haberman has published numerous papers in peer-review journals and has had many presentations in national and international medical conferences. She is also a Principal Investigator in the National Institution of Health funded Consortium of Safe Labor study project. 

On a more personal note, she speaks multiple languages, including English, Hebrew, and Yiddish.
