Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist & Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist Dr. Laura Gorski, who serves patients throughout the State of Nevada.
An experienced obstetrician-gynecologist & maternal-fetal medicine specialist, Dr. Gorski practices at High Risk Pregnancy Center, with office locations in Las Vegas, Reno, and Henderson, Nevada.
“I chose to become an obstetrician-gynecologist because I was fascinated with the miracle of life, particularly birth. I decided to further specialize in maternal-fetal medicine because it allows me to use my advanced skills and leading-edge technology to help women with elevated risks have the healthiest pregnancy outcome possible. I enjoy the personal side of this subspecialty, too. Building relationships with my patients, their families and their obstetricians is essential to the care I provide and it’s a part of my job that I love” expressed Dr. Gorski.
Holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from John Carroll University, she graduated magna cum laude with her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kansas City Osteopathic School of Medicine. She then went on to complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, and her fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Tennessee and Jefferson Medical College.
In addition to providing complete maternal-fetal medicine care, Dr. Gorski performs most of the chorionic villus sampling procedures for our patients – an advanced prenatal test for which she has been specially trained in a postdoctoral fellowship program.
As a testament to her success, she is board-certified in obstetrics & gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AOBOG). The AOBOG is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) who specialize in the care of the female reproductive tract and children during the course of pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period (obstetricians) and to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive tract (gynecologists).
Among her professional affiliations, Dr. Gorski is a proud member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians & Gynecologists, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the American Osteopathic Association, the Nevada State Medical Association, and the Clark County Medical Society.
Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).
Maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) is a branch of medicine that focuses on managing health concerns of the mother and fetus prior to, during, and shortly after pregnancy. Maternal-fetal medicine specialists are physicians who subspecialize within the field of obstetrics. For pregnant women with chronic health problems, MFM specialists work to keep them as healthy as possible while their bodies go through changes. They also care for women who face unexpected problems that develop during pregnancy such as early labor, bleeding or high blood pressure.
Among her various accolades, Dr. Gorski has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2009, 2008), and Top 10 Doctor – Neighborhood (2014).
On a more personal note, she has been featured on the Discovery Channel’s television program, “Amazing Births.” Outside work, she enjoys life with her family, including her twins (conceived through IVF) and two other children.
