How to help daughter with allergies?
A good place to start with a 9-year-old is with an over-the-counter once-daily antihistamine such as Claritin or Zyrtec. Both come in pill or liquid forms and can be used daily if needed. If that is not sufficient, starting an over-the-counter nasal steroid spray (many different types) can be used. Both the antihistamine and nasal steroid sprays come in generic forms as well. If that does not do the trick, please make an appointment with a board certified allergist. They can do the necessary testing to determine to what she is allergic and can make further recommendations for treatment. Dr. Rumbyrt READ MORE
Are there any allergy shots for seasonal allergies?
Yes. Allergy injections are quite effective for seasonal allergies. Depending on your geographic location, you can see an allergist who will evaluate you for the relevant allergens particular to that region. If medications are not effective or if you are having side effects, or if you are looking to reduce or even eliminate your need for regular medications, allergy injections (immunotherapy) is a very good option. Good luck! READ MORE

It is true that allergies can trigger asthma symptoms. In fact, in almost 80% of asthmatics, there is an allergic cause. Though you may not have been formally diagnosed with “asthma”, you may still benefit from a short acting bronchodilator if you are experiencing what you describe as “breathlessness”. It would be helpful if your GP measured your lung function. That would be helpful in determining if an albuterol inhaler would help. READ MORE
