OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital is a 326-bed hospital in Richland County, which has provided quality healthcare to the north central Ohio community since 1918. The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began in 1976 when she earned her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. Upon graduation, she went on to complete her internship and residency in internal medicine at the George Washington University Hospital in 1977 and 1979, respectively. 

That same year, Dr. Mitchell earned board certification in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. Five years later, in 1984, she earned board certification in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, which is a not-for-profit organization that certifies emergency physicians who meet its educational, professional, and examination standards.

Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician, like Dr. Mitchell, is a physician who works at an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients.  They care for unscheduled and undifferentiated patients of all ages.
