Get to know Dentist Dr. Maria Cecilia Aluning, who serves patients in Carson, California.
A woman of many titles, Dr. Aluning is a highly skilled dentist, philanthropist, mother, and caretaker. With her gentle hands, she has been providing the utmost dental care in the City of Carson at Carson Dental Care for over two decades.
Passionate about improving the wellness of each patient’s life, she believes that knowledge, transparency, and attentiveness are what it takes to improve one’s smile. Her goal is to develop and maintain positive relationships with each patient, as well as to create a relaxed and comfortable experience.
Before a procedure is done, she ensures to explain what is to be done to one’s smile and is completely thorough and specific to their needs.
After graduating high school in 1980, Dr. Aluning moved from the Philippines to the United States. One year later, at 15, she began studying computer science in Las Vegas, Nevada. Because she was very young, she switched majors from computer science to nursing, and eventually, dentistry. In 1986, she decided to go back to the Philippines to study dentistry in Manila at Centro Escolar University. 6 years later, she graduated and moved back to the United States to begin her career as a dentist in Carson.
To make sure she is up to date on the newest technologies, Dr. Aluning continues to expand her knowledge in the world of dentistry. She holds a certification in orthodontics and implants from the American Board of Orthodontics, and a certification in periodontics from the American Board of Periodontology.
In addition, she is an active member of the American Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association.
Not only is Dr. Aluning passionate about smiles, but she is also passionate about philanthropy. When she visits home in Bicol, Philippines, she performs dental maintenance to those who do not have access to proper oral hygiene. In December 2020, she and her daughter, Jacqueline, created a fundraiser and sold old clothes for those who were affected by the Typhoon Vamco. They raised $600 which provided food to the people in Maangas for Christmas.
Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat problems with patients’ teeth, gums, and related parts of the mouth. They provide advice and instruction on taking care of the teeth and gums and on diet choices that affect oral health.
During her free time, Dr. Aluning contributes her leadership and ideas to the Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce of South Bay Los Angeles Area (FACC-SLAA). The FACC-SLAA provides opportunities, programs, tools, and services to Filipino-American professionals in the area. Dr. Aluning claims that it is a great way to network, support, and learn from like-minded, successful entrepreneurs.
In 2014, she was awarded by the Leading Physicians of the World as Top Dentist in Carson. In 2015, Continental Who’s Who inducted her as a Pinnacle Professional Member. In 2016, she received an award for being The Outstanding Filipino in Los Angeles (TOPLA) and, in 2017, she was recognized and awarded by FACC/SLAA.
Valuing each patient’s time and smile, Dr. Aluning attributes her success to her ability to put her patients’ needs above her own and keeping an open mind about changes that occur in her field.
Outside of practicing dentistry, she enjoys dancing and traveling.
