Get to know Internist Dr. Donna Whitfield, who serves patients in Dahlonega, Georgia.

A trusted and established internal medicine physician, Dr. Whitfield has strong family ties for generations to the Dahlonega community, which is the home of her practice. She has been a member of Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG Internal Medicine Dahlonega) since 2012 and is a core faculty member for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

NGPG Dahlonega Internal Medicine providers are specially trained to solve puzzling diagnostic issues, severe chronic illnesses, and instances when several different illnesses present at the same time.

Born and raised in Dahlonega, Dr. Whitfield received her medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. She then went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at Atlanta Medical Center.  

Specializing in the medical treatment of adults, she is board-certified in internal medicine & hospice and palliative medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Whitfield is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Society of Internal Medicine.

Practicing medicine in Georgia, she is affiliated with Chestatee Regional Hospital, Northeast Georgia Medical Center Barrow, Northeast Georgia Medical Center, and Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

With a passion for taking care of her patients, Dr. Whitfield received the Best Physician Award in 2014 in her community. She also has a passion for teaching as she teaches and mentors medical students and nurse practitioner students at her clinic.

Her dedication and vast experience and knowledge in outpatient internal medicine has resulted in her earning the Community Based Teaching Award in 2014 from the Georgia Chapter American College of Physicians. In addition to these outstanding accolades, Dr. Whitfield also participates in various quality and improvement committees at her community hospital and participates in scholarly research with publication and recognition at the American College of Physicians.
