Dr. Cottrell brings extensive expertise in arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgeries, managing complex rotator cuff injuries, and addressing cartilage injuries requiring repair. His proficiency in treating ACL and ligament injuries through both minimally invasive and traditional surgical methods has made him a sought-after specialist in the field. Additionally, he is well-versed in shoulder and knee replacements, as well as trauma care for these critical joints.
With an impressive educational background, Dr. Cottrell earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, followed by his Medical Degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine. He completed his internship in general surgery at Orlando Regional Medical Center and went on to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of South Alabama Medical Center. Further honing his skills, he completed a prestigious fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine and arthroscopy at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama.
Recognized for his commitment to excellence, Dr. Cottrell is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.
In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Cottrell is an accomplished athlete himself. As an Ironman Triathlete and a 7-time Boston Marathon finisher, he understands the demands of sports and the importance of recovery and rehabilitation.
