Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Gregg A. Valenzuela, who serves patients in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Dr. Valenzuela is a board-certified internal medicine provider and gastroenterologist who has been with Presbyterian Medical Group since 2014. He sees patients at Gastroenterology in Albuquerque at 1100 Lead Ave. and 3715 Southern Blvd. in Rio Rancho.

As a Presbyterian Medical Group practice, Gastroenterology in Albuquerque provides expert treatment of disorders and conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract. The dedicated physicians and providers work to provide patients and their families with the care they need.

With nearly 45 years of experience, Dr. Valenzuela treats patients with gastroenterologic and hepatologic disorders. His areas of focus include colon cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disorders, liver disease and hepatitis C.

Graduating with his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1978, Dr. Valenzuela went on to further his training. He served his residency in internal medicine at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and his fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center. 

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine and gastroenterology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

In his free time, Dr. Valenzuela enjoys Transcendental Meditation, running, traveling with his wife Marielle, and writing poetry. He is the author of several books of poetry including American Sanyasi: A Journey in Poetry 2nd Edition.
