Get to know Addiction Psychiatrist Dr. Christina Arredondo, who serves patients in Tucson, Arizona.

Dr. Arredondo is a board certified addiction psychiatrist and a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (FAPA). 

Currently, she is the Medical Director of Behavioral Health and MAT at El Rio Community Health in Tucson, Arizona, while continuing her work at the Pascua Yaqui Tribe MAT program. Her interests lie in public health capacity building, Latinx and Native health, data management, addiction services, quality management, and program development. 

A graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine, Dr. Arredondo went on to perform both her residency in psychiatry and fellowship in public psychiatry at Yale University. Her love of public health led to her also working towards her Master of Public Health Degree in Epidemiology from Harvard Chan School of Public Health, culminating in 2023. 

Board certified, Dr. Arredondo is recognized as a Diplomate of both the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology; while the ABPM is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties that issues “certificates of special knowledge” in the specialty of preventive medicine.

Holding an academic appointment, Dr. Arredondo serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. She hopes to continue being a part of other community groups in Arizona working towards improvement of public health services and capacity building.

Addiction psychiatry is a medical subspecialty within psychiatry that focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of people who have one or more disorders related to addiction. This may include disorders involving legal and illegal drugs, gambling, sex, food, and other impulse control disorders. Addiction psychiatrists are substance use disorder experts.

Outside her work responsibilities, Dr. Arredondo spends her time with her 3 young daughters, and they enjoy traveling and staycations, music and home dance parties, and weekly movie nights. She speaks both English and Spanish.
