  • I have oily skin. Should I get a face gel?

Yes, I prefer gels or "dry lotions" for oily skin....for example, Elta sunscreen has a "clear" 46 sunblock that is super light. Another company makes 2% Salicylic lotion that's light. DML also has a non-comedogenic lotion. READ MORE

  • My mother has a carbuncle on her back. What is the course of treatment?

Carbuncles are a large boil full of pus and very inflamed. They are best treated with drainage and usually topical and sometimes oral antibiotics. 80% of the improvement can come from just drainage. Apply heat to help it come to a head, or even apply a drawing salve like an acne mask with sulfur of salicylic. They can resolve spontaneously if they are not large and if you don't make it worse by manipulating it incorrectly. Dermatologists are well-versed in treating carbuncles. Cultures usually show Staph Aureus and even MRSA, especially with larger carbuncles and if very painful. READ MORE

  • Can a severe toe nail infection spread to other parts of the body?

The nail fungus will not spread w nail avulsion, but if it gets a bacterial infection (cellulitis) as a complication of this avulsion, then you might need to take oral or IV antibiotics to fight it....if the nail plate is really thick and it gives you trouble, then the avulsion has to be considered, but keeping in mind the risk of cellulitis. • Is sun exposure a normal way to bring relief from Eczema?

Well, the answer is two sided...if you achieve a "suntan" gradually, without burning, sweating or getting hot, with applying a sunblock and a ceramide moisturizer like Cerave, cetaphil or Eucerin eczema, then the skin's allergic state gets down-regulated and the symptoms get better....and maintain with 2-3 times a week. Just understand and accept the DNA damage to the skin which can result in skin cancers later on. READ MORE

  • Will a vitalize chemical peel result in dry flaky skin for me?

  • I have really bad acne scarring- will PRP Facial help get rid of it?

PRP can help but it's only a small part of treating acne scars. The consultation should identify the types of acne scars each different patient has, and taylor the treatments to those. For example, rolling scars need Subcision and sometimes Microneedling; ice pick scars CROSS, box scars Resurfacing with either ablative lasers, or chemical peels, atrophied scars need fillers and hypertrophic scars need Intralesional medications. PRP is used either with Microneedling or with fillers. Hope this helps. Dr Rullan READ MORE
