Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Gregor J. Hoffman, who serves patients in Louisiana.

Recognized as a top orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Hoffman specializes in sports medicine and joint replacement. He provides several orthopaedic procedures and services at Southern Orthopaedic Specialists, including: sports medicine, Oxford partial knee replacement, hip and knee replacement, and anterior approach hip replacement.

On the clinical staff at the Tulane University School of Medicine, his hospital affiliations include Ochsner Baptist Medical Center (a member of the Staff Executive Committee), East Jefferson General Hospital, and Jefferson Ambulatory Surgery Center.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Hoffman graduated with his medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1988. He then went on to serve his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at the said establishment, followed by a joint replacement fellowship at Rothman Institute of Thomas Jefferson University. He also received special training at the Hughston Sports Medicine Clinic in Columbus, Georgia.

Certified in Oxford partial knee replacements and trained in anterior approach total hip replacement, the doctor is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Hoffman is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society, the Southern Medical Association, the Orleans Parish Medical Society, the Hughston Sports Medicine Society, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Clinical Orthopaedic Society, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Providing medical care to high school and professional sports athletes, Dr. Hoffman served as a team physician for the professional basketball team in New Orleans (then called the New Orleans Hornets) from 2002-2004. He also served as an associate team physician for the New Orleans Saints, and was the team physician for Isidore Newman High School. 

Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

In honor of his 30+ year career, Dr. Hoffman has been the recipient of On-Time Doctor Award (2014, 2016) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2016).
