Get to know Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist Dr. Catherine Herway, who serves patients in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Dr. Herway is a fellowship-trained maternal-fetal medicine specialist who takes care of women with complications of pregnancy.

J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital is a tertiary care referral center in Morgantown, West Virginia. It serves as the principal clinical education and research site for the West Virginia University School of Medicine.

“Different people seek different things from their health care provider. Part of my job is to figure out what that is for each patient and to do my best to give them the care that they came to see me for” expressed Dr. Herway.

Alongside her clinical role, she serves as an Assistant Professor within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the West Virginia University School of Medicine.

Her acclaimed career in medicine began after she earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2003. She then went on to complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in 2007, followed by her fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Arizona in 2013.

With a passion for her profession, Dr. Herway is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

Obstetrics and Gynecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics and gynecology. An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, is a healthcare professional who specializes in female reproductive health. 

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Herway enjoys visiting museums, watching independent films, tap dancing, traveling, hiking, scuba diving, and skiing.
