Get to know Family Physician Dr. Vera Oyabure, who serves patients in Katy, Texas.
A board-certified family physician, Dr. Oyabure works at KarisMed Family Medicine in Katy, Texas.
KarisMed Family Medicine is a forward-thinking Direct Primary Care (DPC) medical practice for adults, children, and business employees. The board-certified, skilled, and dedicated family doctors ensure that high-value personalized, proactive, and affordable health care is delivered through unlimited and unhurried visits, same day appointments, and house calls. They strive to foster an enduring relationship between each patient and their dedicated family physician.
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Oyabure received her Bachelor of Science degree from Baylor University and her medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine. She then completed a Family Practice Residency Program at the University of Tennessee in Jackson.
“Since the age of five, I have always known I wanted to be a doctor. During medical school, I decided to specialize in family medicine which would enable me to serve people and establish a doctor-patient relationship, which is the backbone of primary care. Having gone through the rigorous clinical and hospital training during residency, I opted to become a hospitalist, attending to more complex and acute medical conditions in an active hospital environment. I have gained significant and valuable experience as a hospitalist, and enjoyed the bustle of not knowing what next to expect” expressed Dr. Oyabure.
However, as a trained family medicine physician, she also observed how proactive and redesigned primary care can help improve overall patient well-being, reduce hospitalizations and emergency room visits, which have become a huge cost burden on patients. Hence, she decided to return to her passion – primary care, where she can provide excellent patient-focused medical services to patients of all ages.
Licensed to practice medicine in Texas, she has medical privileges at Houston Methodist West Hospital, Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, UTMB Health, and ACA Houston Healthcare.
As a testament of her success, Dr. Oyabure is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.
In good standing with a number of professional organizations, she is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Society of Hospital Medicine, the American Academy of Private Physicians, the Texas Medical Association, the Houston Medical Forum, and the Institute of Functional Medicine. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Fulshear Katy Area Chamber of Commerce.
Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.
Recognized for her dedication to her field, Dr. Oyabure has been the recipient of the Houstonian Top Doctor Award in 2018.
On a more personal note, she is blessed with a loving and supportive husband and two adorable sons. She enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, cooking, going on walkouts, basketball coaching, serving in her local church, and mentoring the future generation in her community.
