Get to know Colon and Rectal Surgeon Dr. Sharon L. Dykes, who serves the population of Minnesota. Dr. Dykes completed his undergraduate degree from Brown University in 1988, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1988. Wanting to further her education she graduated with her Medical Degree from The Warren Alpert Medical School Of Brown University in 1991, giving her over two decades of experience in her field. After obtaining her Medical Degree she completed her internship with SUNY Upstate Medical University, followed by a general surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery residency with the University of Minnesota. Dr. Dykes is dual certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. To stay up to date in her field he remains a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She currently practices with her private practice Minnesota Colon & Rectal Surgical Specialists. Colon and rectal surgery focuses on the treatment of diseases and conditions affecting the intestinal tract, rectum, anus and peri-anal areas. This surgical specialty emphasizes the use of minimally invasive techniques whenever possible, since these typically lead to fewer complications and a faster, more comfortable healing for patients. Colorectal surgeons also perform the full range of screening and diagnostic tests for diseases, malignant and benign, affecting the colon and rectum, including colonoscopy.
