Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Anika Saran Goodwin, who serves patients in North Carolina.

A lover of people with a servant’s heart, Dr. Goodwin is a board certified ophthalmologist, visionary, thought leader, speaker, author, and vision advocate. She helps people see more clearly in their professional and personal endeavors and maintain healthy vision for a lifetime through education about eye health.

Recognized as a skilled medical and beauty professional with subspecialty training in oculofacial plastic surgery, she is the Co-Founder and CEO of EYEmergencyMD, Inc., the first and only acute care ocular telemedicine company. She is also the Founder of OpulenceMD Beauty, a luxury eye-specific beauty brand featuring luxury magnetic lashes. 

Performing over ten thousand surgical procedures, she specializes in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the eyelids, brow, midface, orbits, and tear ducts.

She is also a gifted speaker and is well-versed on all vision related topics as well as the ocular telehealth space.

An innovative thinker and experienced problem solver, she is also the Co-Founder and CEO of Central Care Connect, a visionary company committed to making healthcare safer, more cohesive, and more connected by putting the patient back at the center of the healthcare team. Furthermore, she serves on the Board of Directors for Run Success Vision Lab, a company that creates visible platforms for causes in need of representation and advocacy. In the past, she served as an oculoplastic surgeon for the US Federal Government from 2010 through 2018.

As a little girl who grew up believing she could fix anything with a roll of tape, Dr. Anika matured into a woman who still believes she can fix anything, just with a few more resources. This is what led her to medicine and ultimately to be a surgeon. 

Holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she earned her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She then went on to complete her internship with the UNC Hospitals, her residency at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, and her fellowship in oculofacial plastic surgery and ocular trauma at the Wayne State University Kresge Eye Institute.

A results-driven person and ever mindful of the bottom line, Dr. Goodwin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. 

Furthermore, she is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

A very passionate person, Dr. Goodwin brings energy and passion to all that she chooses to do. Whether it is church, community service, or random acts of kindness, she gives 110% or it is not worth doing.
