Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. John C. Mueller, who serves patients in Peoria, Illinois.

Dr. Mueller, a highly regarded obstetrician-gynecologist, holds the esteemed position of Medical Director of Labor and Delivery at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. He is additionally affiliated with Heartland Community Health Clinic and Heartland Health Services in Peoria. 

In his academic capacity, Dr. Mueller serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, underscoring his valuable contributions to the field. 

Boasting an extensive and accomplished educational and residency background, Dr. Mueller pursued his medical education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, where he graduated in 1983. He then embarked on a residency program in obstetrics and gynecology, beginning at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in 1985, and later continued his residency at St. Louis University in 1986. In 1987, he further honed his skills during a residency program at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. 

Two years later in 1989, Dr. Mueller attained board certification in obstetrics and gynecology through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts). Obstetricians focus on pregnancy and related health issues, while gynecologists focus on general reproductive health.
