Get to know Bariatric Surgeon Dr. Michael A. Snyder, who serves patients in Denver, Colorado.
Dr. Snyder is a board-certified bariatric surgeon who is affiliated with the Denver Center for Bariatric Surgery in Denver, Colorado. The Denver Center for Bariatric Surgery is a medical weight loss center that is dedicated to helping patients reach their goals by providing proven, safe, and comprehensive bariatric surgery procedures. Expert bariatric surgeons guide patients through all of their weight loss surgery options and help them decide which one is right for them.
Dr. Snyder also serves as the Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Center at Rose Medical Center in Denver. He has performed more than 6,000 bariatric surgical procedures, including more than 2,000 restrictive gastric bands and more than 150 sleeves each year. His interest in bariatric surgery is based on his knowledge that morbid obesity is one of the essential, yet vastly ignored diseases physicians are exposed to every day. In addition to surgical weight-loss treatment, Dr. Snyder was the first in the region to perform the non-surgical intragastric balloon procedure. This revolutionary weight loss product combines comprehensive nutritional coaching and support with a non-permanent, same-day outpatient balloon procedure.
Dr. Snyder earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine and became interested in bariatric surgery during his residency at Oregon Health Sciences University. He then went on to complete an American Society for Bariatric Surgery certified preceptorship in Oregon, where he studied under Dr. Latham Flanagan, Jr. He later expanded his expertise with instruction from internationally recognized laparoscopic bariatric surgery leader, Dr. Alan Wittgrove. Dr. Snyder also undertook training at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Snyder has a special interest in gastric revisions, including band revisions – converting bands, sleeves, vertical banded gastroplasty and Nissens to alternative procedures; re-making bypasses to correct restriction and pouch size; and fixing complications. He is also skilled in Adjustable Gastric Band procedures, intragastric balloon non-surgical weight-loss gastric sleeve surgery, general surgery, pediatric weight loss, and minimally invasive Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass.
An internationally published author of “Full: A Life Without Dieting,” Dr. Snyder is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is also board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
Bariatric surgery includes a variety of procedures performed on people who have obesity. Weight loss is achieved by reducing the size of the stomach with a gastric band or through removal of a portion of the stomach or by resecting and re-routing the small intestine to a small stomach pouch. As a bariatric surgeon, Dr. Snyder’s weight loss surgery treatment is both comprehensive and methodical. He believes that, in the appropriate patient, the surgical treatment of morbid obesity is the essential therapy that can cure a myriad of ills. In addition to English, Dr. Snyder speaks Spanish.
