Get to know Chiropractor Dr. Laura Ames, who serves patients in Effingham, Illinois.
Dr. Ames has been a chiropractor, freeing people from pain, since 1986. She is the owner & operator of Chiropractic Care Center in Effingham, Illinois. She has a passion for helping her patients feel better whether that be physically, emotionally, or mentally.
Treating all forms of conditions, it is her mission to search for the root of causes rather than simply masking the symptoms with medication. For example, those who have fibromyalgia or irritable bowel syndrome often have symptoms that may be caused by food allergies. Further, patients with ADD/ADHD can be helped with alternatives to prescribed drugs such as a technique called Neurolink, which works with the belief that the brain should be evaluated like a computer which controls the body. Any disconnections with the signals between the brain and body will result in imbalances which can cause different symptoms. Dr. Ames states that it is so rewarding using Neurolink to help change the lives of children who have struggled with learning disabilities and ADD, who without medication, are now successful in school.
Helping patients achieve their optimal wellness, she and her associates also work to correct the damage caused by a disease or condition. For instance, patients with gluten intolerance may learn to avoid the food, but the digestive system damaged from years of irritation needs to be repaired through a nutritional protocol to become healthy and function normally again. Patients who have had several rounds of antibiotics must reinoculate their system with the proper probiotics in order to re-establish their immune system.
“We are often the last resort for patients who come to us after having several tests done, only to be told there is nothing wrong with them. We utilize different evaluations to help determine if their symptoms are being caused by a particular food, neurological disorganization, nutritional deficiency or other imbalances that have not been detected from standard tests” stated Dr. Ames.
A 1985 graduate of the National College of Chiropractic, she continues to attend numerous educational seminars in functional medicine, classes, and programs to make sure she is staying at the cutting edge of developments in her field. In doing so, she is able to do the best job she can to heal her patients and arm them against any future issues.
Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine that mainly deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. A chiropractor uses spinal adjustments, manipulation, and other techniques to manage patients’ health concerns, including neck pain, back pain, headaches, vertigo and a long list of other ailments and conditions. They aim to improve patients’ functionality and quality of life by properly aligning the body’s musculoskeletal structure and enabling the body to heal itself naturally, without the use of medication or surgery.
