Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Jeffrey B. Cantor, who serves patients in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

An internationally-recognized spine surgeon, Dr. Cantor is one of the world’s foremost leaders responsible for significant breakthroughs in the most advanced, minimally-invasive “ultrasonic” techniques and procedures.

His founding vision for Cantor Spine Institute is to deliver lifestyle-preserving, long-lasting, superior solutions for patients with spine problems. His practice is grounded in motion-preserving and function-sparing spinal surgery, with an emphasis on fusion alternative surgery, for the treatment of cervical stenosis, lumbar stenosis, lumbar spondylolisthesis, scoliosis, and other disabling spinal problems.

Bringing over 27 years of experience and performing upwards of 7,000 spinal surgeries, his expertise stretches across the spinal spectrum, from simple procedures to the most complex cervical, thoracic, and lumbar conditions. People travel near, and far, to be under his care. His philosophy extends well beyond the surgery itself, to encompass every single factor that could affect long term results, from the first visit through recovery, and beyond.

Ultrasonic technology is Dr. Cantor’s signature platform, enabling him to perform minimally-invasive treatments that are smarter, safer, future-minded, and better. He continually develops and masters the most sophisticated new surgical techniques and tools, and his novel approach uses high frequency “ultrasonic” vibrations to dissolve painful bone spurs from the inside out. His expertise provides for a level of safety and precision that is not possible with traditional spine surgery tools and lasers. He deftly tackles incredibly sensitive areas through the smallest incisions – removing pressure in and around the nerve, without causing damage – to preserve structure, strength, mobility, and function.

His distinctive approach reflects his experience as both a spinal surgeon and spinal surgery patient. As someone who’s undergone three separate spinal surgeries – the first at age 16 – he is uniquely able to relate to his patients and shape effective treatment plans that offer concrete solutions, and answer for the physical, psychological, and emotional burdens associated with these problems.

In addition to seeing patients at Cantor Spine Institute, Dr. Cantor can be found on staff at Broward Imperial, Holy Cross Hospital, Memorial Pembroke, Park Creek, and St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Academically, he earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida. He then went on to serve at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center, before completing the prestigious spine surgery fellowship at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak in Michigan.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in orthopedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

In good standing with a number of professional organizations, Dr. Cantor is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American College of Spine Surgery, the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons, and the North American Spine Society.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

As a testament of his success, Dr. Cantor has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2018), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2018, 2015).

On a more personal note, he resides in Fort Lauderdale with his wife and son.
