Get to know Interventional Physiatrist Dr. Benoy Benny, who serves patients in Texas.

Dr. Benny is a nationally recognized interventional physiatrist specializing in spine and musculoskeletal / sports issues. He sees patients at The Spine and Sports Center with offices in Houston and Sugarland, Texas.

With a goal to find the source of symptoms and to treat them in the least invasive way, he focuses on rehabilitation, physical therapy and minimally invasive injections and procedures for all types of pain, including back, neck, shoulder, and hip pain. He is also committed to providing the leading treatments in his field, including minimally invasive procedures, regenerative medicine techniques such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and stem cell injections.

In addition to working with adolescent and adult patients at The Spine and Sports Center, Dr. Benny is affiliated with Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, Houston Methodist Neuroscience & Spine Center at Sugar Land, UTMB Health Clear Lake Campus Hospital, OakBend Medical Center, and Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center.

He is the Fellowship Director in Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine of the first North American Spine Society accredited fellowship in Houston. He also continues to teach fellows at the Houston Methodist Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowships, and residents at Memorial Hermann Family Medicine, the University of Texas, Houston and at the Baylor College of Medicine.

Back in 1999, Dr. Benny graduated with his medical degree from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of The West Indies in Jamaica. He then went on to perform his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Texas, Houston, and his pain medicine – interventional spine and sports fellowship at the University of Michigan.

Playing an active role in his field, he is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain medicine by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, whose mission is to serve the public by improving the quality of patient care in physical medicine and rehabilitation. This is accomplished through a process of certification and maintenance of certification that fosters excellence and encourages continuous learning.

By the same token, he is board-eligible in sports medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine.

In his professional experience, Dr. Benny is involved in the North American Spine Society as part of the Rehabilitation, Intervention and Medical Spine (RIMs) Society, has been on the faculty for the Advanced Spinal Workshop for many years, is involved with the Spine Intervention Society (SIS) Committee, and is involved in other societies like the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is also involved in the research side as well as continues to publish papers in the field. 

Interventional physiatry, also known as physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), offers a holistic view of the patient. Interventional physiatrists investigate and treat conditions of the nerves, muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and cartilage.

Among his diverse accolades, Dr. Benny is the recipient of Patients’ Choice Award (2011, 2012, 2018), Top 10 Doctor – Metro Area (2014), Top 10 Doctor – City (2014), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2015, 2018).
