As a practicing dentist, he served on the faculties of Baylor College of Dentistry, in Dallas, the University of Washington Health Sciences Center in Seattle, Washington, and Wharton County Junior College where he served as Supervising Dentist and instructor for Pharmacology, Head & Neck Anatomy, Periodontology, Nutrition and General and Oral Pathology for almost 30 years. He has held elective offices including City Councilman and Mayor. He gained membership to Outstanding Young Men of America in 1981. For almost ten years he was actively involved in writing and organizing seminars for the John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Forums and was appointed to the Texas Jobs Training Coordinating Council by Governor William P. Clements. He is currently the President of the Wharton Independent School District Board of Trustees.
