Get to know Radiologist Dr. Erika Swanson, who serves the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area at her private practice, and at several local hospitals. Affiliated with several area hospitals, Dr. Swanson ensures each patient is able to receive up-to-date care with modern techniques and technologies. Throughout her career, she has earned many accolades and honors, including the 2018 Top Doctors Award from Milwaukee Magazine. She believes that the best method of treating cancer is by using evidence-based medicine while keeping in mind the uniqueness of each patient. Dr. Swanson earned her degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2006, and completed her residency at Shand’s Cancer Center at the University of Florida. She has been board certified in radiation oncology. Her special interests include gynecologic, breast, head and neck, and lung cancers. To stay current in her field, Dr. Swanson maintains professional memberships in prestigious medical organizations. Additionally, she has furthered the field of radiology by conducting research and publishing her findings in medical journals, including the International Journal of Radiation Oncology. Radiologists use imaging to gather information about the structure and function of the human body that may be unavailable without surgery. They rely on penetrating radiation, such as X-rays, CT scans, and PET scans to diagnose diseases. They may also employ ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. Dr. Swanson maintains two locations of her practice so she can better serve the patients of Milwaukee. She is additionally affiliated with the Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee, which allows her to reach a diverse group of patients. When she is not seeing patients, she enjoys spending time with friends and family members.
