Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Kiran K. Bhat, who serves patients in Brooklyn, New York.

Dr. Bhat is a practicing gastroenterologist who works to help his patients acquire lifelong habits of health and disease prevention. He maintains his own practice serving the Brooklyn community, where he is known for his compassionate and patient-oriented view.

With 20 years of experience in gastroenterology, one of Dr. Bhat’s most sought-after treatments is a very effective, non-surgical procedure for hemorrhoids that is minimally-invasive. The focus of his care is to educate and help people maintain an excellent quality of life through nutrition. 

Having educated fellows, interns, and medical students for about a decade, he is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine. He is also affiliated with The Brooklyn Hospital Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

Academically, Dr. Bhat began the trek toward medicine at Armed Forces Medical College Pune in India, graduating in 1982. He has an accomplished training record with residencies in internal medicine at Brooklyn hospitals (including University Hospital-Brooklyn, Kings County Hospital Center, and VA NY Harbor Healthcare System), and fellowships in gastroenterology at places like The Brooklyn Hospital Center, Caledonian Hospital, and Woodhull Medical Center.

With over four decades of experience, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

An early adopter of medical technology, Dr. Bhat has seen how IT can create as many hurdles as advantages for a practice. That is why he served as an advisor to pioneering EMR developers to help them avoid designing difficult user interfaces. He applied his years of experience and resources in creating an innovative application that is simple, secure and highly efficient. His invention of the GI+EndoWriter liberates users from the proprietary systems that hold patient information hostage in a single location. It gives them ease of use, easy access, and control of all their patient data.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

Outside of healthcare, Dr. Bhat leads a similarly enriching life. He loves to practice yoga, play squash, go dancing (especially salsa and mambo), and travel internationally. He is also an avid snowboarder and loves to cook (nutritious foods, of course!).

A fast language-learner, he is fluent in English, Spanish, Hindi, and Kannada.
