Is it bad that I leave food in between my teeth?
Yes. Bacteria that causes decay will feed on the food left there and their byproduct is acid which wears the enamel and causes cavities. Floss, floss, floss! READ MORE
My son is a year old, and isn't teething. Is this abnormal?
That is abnormal. Normally babies get their first teeth at age 6months. By now he should have 4 on the bottom and 4 on top in the front plus his 1st molars should be starting soon. If nothing changes soon, I'd take him to a pediatric dentist and they may do an x-ray to see what's going on (they will be able to see if there are teeth there that just aren't erupted yet or if he has some missing). What foods should I eat after going to the dentist?
This depends on what you had done. For example if you just had a cleaning, you aren't supposed to eat anything for 30 minutes because of the fluoride treatment. After 30 minutes you are good to eat whatever. If you had a filling or something that required getting numb, they may have told you not to eat right away because you. may chew on your cheek and not realize it because your are numb. In this case you can eat once the numbing wears off. If you had a tooth extracted, the above applies because you would be numb but also add that you shouldn't eat anything too hot or too cold for about 24 hours and nothing chunky like vegetable soup where you could get bits of debris in the socket. What causes bleeding gums in kids?
Bleeding when brushing is a sign of gingivitis. This is caused by not effectively removing the plaque 2 times per day with good brushing. You should help him/monitor him and make sure he is getting his teeth cleaned properly ( a lot of kids will miss the areas near the gumline). If the gumline is missed, the bodies response to the lingering bacteria is an inflammatory reaction which is what causes the red swollen bleeding gums. READ MORE
What causes dental erosions?
Erosion is caused by acid wearing away the tooth's natural enamel. It is caused by eating a lot of acidic foods (oranges, lemons, tomatoes...). It can also be caused by Bulimia in which the erosion would be on the backside of your upper teeth. READ MORE
Why is my daughter still not teething?
No it isn't. Take her to a pediatric dentist and they will likely take an x-ray to see if there are any teeth even present. READ MORE
What are the early signs of dental trouble?
Yes, bleeding gums are due to gingivitis meaning you aren't getting the plaque off of your teeth frequently or thoroughly enough. This will subside w/in 2 weeks of brushing twice a day and flossing once a day. No bleeding means healthy tissue. Jaw pain can be due to a number of things. You could be clenching or grinding your teeth at night or just tensing up during the day and not even realize it. This is common especially if you have been experiencing any additional stress.
