Prior to his current endeavors, Dr. Hammer served as an attending physician at the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center for a period of 14 years from July 1976 until December 1990. 

Born in Mexico City, he graduated with his medical degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1970. After relocating to the United States to further his training, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, followed by his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the NYU Medical Center. 

Among the doctor’s most notable achievements, he is board-certified in both internal medicine and pulmonary medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

A Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, he remains a member of several professional societies and organizations, including the American Thoracic Society, the New York Trudeau Society, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the Medical Society of the State of New York, and the American Medical Association.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract.
