Dr. Belzie is a trusted psychiatrist with over four decades of experience in his field. He aims to identify and address the physical, psychological, spiritual, and practical burdens of illness.
Since 2001, he has been serving as the Director of the Palliative Care Program at the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in New York City, New York. As such, he provides psychiatric consultants and supportive services to patients and their families utilizing palliative model; assesses patients and provides bereavement counseling and services to assist patients and families who are coping with life-threatening illness; provides supervision to clinical staff; and provides staff education on palliative care initiatives and measures.
The Palliative Care Program is established to improve the quality of life for patients and families facing the problems associated with life-defining, life threatening, or life limiting illnesses. The Palliative Care team adapts a patient-centered approach and holistic care method to serve as a bridge between the patient/family and the multidisciplinary team.
After earning his medical degree from University of Haiti Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in 1979, Dr. Belzie relocated to the United States to further his training. Once there, he went on to perform his residency in psychiatry at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in New York.
A Lifetime Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, the doctor is a member of the Haitian Medical Association Abroad and the Haitian American Psychiatric Association.
